Instagramer of the week : Sylvia Matzkowiak aka @goldie_berlin

Sylvia Matzkowiak’s greatest passions are photography and traveling, and her Instagram account reflects them both very well. This Polish advertising sales woman has been living in Germany for several years, and works for European publishing companies. It’s in Berlin that she found out that « the world can be so beautiful and full of colors », as she puts it.
She talks about inspiration, colors, and travel for Printic. Let’s dive into her world together!

Photographing the colors of the world
« I started with mobile photography about 3 years ago and am now addicted to seeing all the beautiful places in the world. Every place has its beautiful colors, you just need to find them! My philosophy: to show you my world in colors. I don’t shoot with my camera, only with my eyes. » Sylvia aims to discover new places and to help other people discover them as well : « it is my passion to travel and see different places, and to be surprised by all the different views that a city offers. It is like a surprise when you land somewhere ».

Instagram is her diary
About three years ago, Sylvia started using Instagram, which she considers now to be like a travel diary. She explains : « during holidays, I started to capture the places I liked the most and showed them step by step to people around me. This is how I started my diary around the world. I was so happy to see that so many people followed me and were interested in other places. »
Sylvia also seeks to go beyond mere pictures. « When I travel, I try to create a story around a place to invite people in my virtual diary. It is a challenge for me to capture a whole story in a place and to show what I see ».

Going social
For Sylvia, Instagram is « a good way to share a moment or to show your experience to other people ». She explains : « my goal is to take people on a virtual journey and to find new exciting places by looking at other Instagramers’ images. Sometimes, it is inspiring to see the other side of the world and to plan to visit that place, too. » She especially likes the interactive aspect of the social network : « the response was great, people give you a feedback on what you do very fast. I realized that my follower loved the colors and the way I edit my images. »

Inspiration to be found everywhere
Since she travels a lot, Sylvia is inspired by many different places and atmospheres. « I find inspiration in traveling around the world and seeing all places in my own, colorful way. I see the nature as it is and just add a bit of color into a picture. I already saw many beautiful places and couldn’t say which one was the best. Every place has its own beauty and this is what I am trying to capture. There is no perfect place. You need to feel the nature and the colors, then you can capture a picture that reminds you of the atmosphere, later on.

About challenges, goals and satisfaction
Sylvia’s ambition is very clear : « my big challenge is to be satisfied with my results », she says, adding : « it’s not always easy when you take so many shots of one place to decide which one is the best, which one represents your true emotion. Sometimes, when I am preparing for a shot, I walk around and try to find the best view, but I never plan ahead. »

Let’s finish with Sylvia’s good advice for beginners :
« When you start with Instagram or another social network , you should decide what your goal is. What do you want to show with your images ? Your life, your feelings, special moments, nature ? Try to find one particular style and keep it, then improve your skills in photography by practicing and reacting to the feedbacks you get. The picture is only good when you like this too and you are satisfied with it. And never forget : love what you do and other people will love it too. »
